In this article, the author introduces the theoretical and technical foundations of the transcultural mediation approach as it is implemented with palliative care teams. Accompanying a family in this event is a challenge for all care teams. This challenge can be even more complex when caregivers and parents do not share the same cultural references. In situations of therapeutic impasse, taking into account the cultural fact – no longer regarded as a brake but, on the contrary, as a tremendously active catalyst – can not only enrich the medical interpretation but also make possible a real encounter between the patient and his doctor.
